Two killed after shooting near South Side YMCA – Indy News

(Indianapolis, In) – Indianapolis police say two men were shot dead Saturday night outside a recreation center on the south side.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and physicians received a report of a man being shot at Shelby Street and Stop 11 Road shortly before 8:10 p.m. Saturday. This is 7900 Shelby St.

IMPD Captain Kimberly Young said the two men were found behind the YMCA facility. The age of the men was not immediately known.

The IMPD initially said at least one of the two shot dead, but confirmed at around 9pm that both had died.

The surrounding area is generally a quiet area, officers patrolling the area told Yang.

Bullets were found in the parking lot of the YMCA, where police vehicles gathered around an outbuilding next to an outdoor sports field at the YMCA.

Young asked anyone who heard or saw the shooting to contact police at 317-232-8477. Some people were already talking to police when they heard gunshots on Saturday night.

It was not immediately clear if the YMCA would be closed soon or reopened on Sunday. Tony Wise, a spokesman for the YMCA in Greater Indianapolis, told News8 via email Saturday night, “We’re commenting until we know more.”

The first two shots were shot on 93.1FM WIBC after the shooting near Post South Side YMCA.
