Serial armed robbers have been in federal prison for more than 25 years – Indy News

Indianapolis – A man in Indianapolis has committed three armed robberies and was sentenced to more than 25 years in federal prison on Wednesday.

Irving Gomez, also known as John Mendez-Rodrিকেguez, 29, of Indianapolis, committed several robberies in 2021. One of which was a business where he worked.

Court documents state that on January 24, 2021, Gomez entered an O’Reilly auto parts store in Indianapolis with a loaded rifle that he used to threaten employees and demand money from the store’s safe and register. After receiving the money, Gomez fled the business. Shopkeepers said they identified the robber as former employee Irving Gomez.

Gomez was kidnapped again on February 6, 2021, this time at a CVS in Indianapolis. Again, he used a loaded rifle to threaten employees while demanding money from the cash register. Gomez struck an employee with the butt of his rifle, but his demands were not immediately met. After receiving the money, he left the shop.

On March 1, 2021, Gomez returned to the same O’Reilly auto parts store that he had snatched in January. Court documents show that he also wore the same clothes he wore on January 24.

Sticking to the same pattern, Gomez was still carrying a loaded rifle, but an employee grabbed the gun and used it to pin Gomez to a nearby wall. In response, Gomez grabbed a metal rod from the wall and used it to hit the employee on the head more than once. He pulled a knife out of his pocket and tried to stab the employee. However, court documents say the employee was able to disarm him.

Officers eventually arrived at the scene and were able to take Gomez into custody. He pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm.

The post-serial armed robber first appeared on 93.1FM WIBC for more than 25 years in a federal prison.
