According to the New York Times, Modern has asked the FDA to approve a second Covid booster for all adults.

The New York Times reports:

Moderna said late Thursday that it had asked the Food and Drug Administration for urgent approval of a second booster of its coronavirus vaccine for all adults, a significantly wider request than Pfizer and Bioentech, which filed for their shots this week.

The request is likely to intensify the latest round of ongoing scientific debate over how long the protection from the two most widely used vaccines in the United States lasts in the face of new forms.

Federal health officials say they are concerned about the reduced power of the booster shot that was approved for both Moderna and Pfizer in the fall. But while there are indications that regulators may move faster at Pfizer’s request, it is unclear how favorable they will look at Moderna’s wider application.

Moderna said her request covers all adults so that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and healthcare providers can determine the appropriate use of a second booster for those who are at high risk for Covid-19 disease due to their age or underlying medical condition. The firm said its request was based in part on recent information on how well its vaccine was protected against the Omicron variant in the United States and Israel.
