Matt Ryan explains his decision to join Colt – Indy News

Indianapolis This is a new QB1, still after No. 2 in Indianapolis.

Matt Ryan’s introductory press conference was held Tuesday as he joined a new team for the first time in his 14-year NFL history.

Here are the highlights of the meeting with Ryan Media:

About her passion last week:

“I am not stupid. I understand how this business works and there is going to be movement. From the start last week until today, I thought everyone handled things professionally. I didn’t like everything I heard (laughs). But you don’t always like to hear that. They were professional and handled it really well. I knew in that look that I had to decide if I wanted to go or not, and when I looked at it I knew I had to go somewhere. And no doubt if I was going to take action there was no doubt that I wanted to stay here. That has a lot to do with that going down. I am grateful to Mr. Irsa and his family, Chris Ballard and his staff and Frank (Rich) and his coaching staff and the Falcons organization for their trust that I would like to move on. I am grateful for the way it worked and I am here today.

Whether it was Ryan’s decision:

“It wasn’t. I was there and (in Atlanta) loved every minute of it, no question about it, and I tried my best to help them win and at the same time realize that this year, next year or whenever, There may be times when something different happens. Whether you talk about Tom Brady, Payton (Manning) or any of those guys, there was a time when they had to relocate and they both had tremendous success. Behind my mind, Thinking about this opportunity for the rest of my career where I try to catch that spark and go. I try to do my part to work and get on the field with these people and help this team win as many games as possible. “

If staying in Atlanta was an option:

“At first, I didn’t know. I didn’t know if we would be forced into a trade based on how things shook. The way they did it, it came down to a decision between staying in Atlanta or coming to Indianapolis. I had a (zoom) meeting with Chris Ballard, Frank, Marcus Brady, Parks Frazier on Saturday night. Their passion, their commitment, their professionalism, Chris’s responsibility for himself and for what he does, Frank’s sympathy for my understanding of the situation you are in a certain place and did it the same way and will never forget it. It’s an incredible part of that. Never forget that. It was a really nice meeting for me. Then I had to sit down with my family and say, ‘What’s the most important thing for us?’ I just knew with the roster and their beliefs and beliefs about how they work, the timing was right for me and I felt I needed to do it. I came downstairs and my wife was like, ‘You look different.’ I knew in that moment that we wanted to go. It took a while to really think about it and discuss it, and when we did, we came to that conclusion. “

About his leadership style:

“Leadership is about serving your teammates. One thing I’ve learned over 14 years is that certain boys need to be different from you. As a player, as a leader, what you want in each team is different. You need to know your guys. You need to know your peers really well and how they tick and they are inspired and what are the things you can do to help them get the best out of themselves. It’s going to be a really exciting challenge for me, for those guys and this locker room, these coaching staff to know best how I work at it and what things I can bring into it. I have always believed that your leadership needs to be flexible, that you need to read the room for a better term, but you have to be principled. You just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people. I have certainly been flexible throughout my career. I am at a different stage of my career than I was when I was 23 or 24 years old. “

On learning a new crime:

“Well, I had some different coaches in Atlanta. I had 3 different head coaches and I would probably say 6 attacking coordinators. So I learned some new crimes in my time and learned how to do it best. Being at the NFC, watching Frank when he was in Philadelphia, I saw a lot of what they did. When you look at Frank, even then, what interests me is that they morph, depending on how he sees things to the players and what they are doing. So I feel confident that I will be able to learn it very quickly. There are definitely going to be road bumps. Always working with someone new. However I am quite confident and excited about it. I think a part of it revives you too. I am curious and you always want to learn. I can’t wait to start learning, get into this building and start working with these people. “

Seeing Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford win the Super Bowl in the last two years:

“The roadmap looks pretty good. Matthew Stafford made the transition to what he did at LA last year and playing so well and seeing what Tom did, I first saw him in the division a year ago. Hopefully we can reduce that momentum a bit and give it a push here. I really believe we can. I think the roster is really well built. They are made up of delicious, really high-profile football players across the board, who work hard. It’s amazing to me how much care they have about winning, sending a bunch of texts and talking to the boys. In their first text message everyone was about to win. That’s unique. It really is. And that set me on fire. I hope we can continue the trend that is going on and do that for us. ”

About any previous relationship with Frank Reich before Saturday night:

“It simply came to our notice then. I know a lot of people who know Frank. The football world is small. There is not much level of separation between people. I’ve always heard positive things. Early in my career I had a teammate who was one of my coaches last year who worked with Frank in Philadelphia and was just obsessed with him. One of the smartest level-headed guys you’ll ever be around. I must have received this review from the people I reached out to to talk about it. This is of course a review from every player on this team. I’m excited about it. I had the opportunity to talk to (Rich) today and he was very nice to me and my family. I’m ready to go to work. “

How long does he want to play with 2 years left in his contract:

“I said from the beginning, I want to play as long as I can. I feel really good. My body feels really good. I still feel like I can play at a higher level than before. As long as that happens, no one has a crystal ball to know exactly how long it is going to be. As long as I feel good and think I can play well, I’m going to try and play. “

Before last week it thought of a possibility:

“You know the league really well when you’re at it, so you know which teams are good, which teams may not be talented, what the rosters look like. You know who needs what position. It’s been well reported so we’ve heard a lot about it and you know what kind of situation is going on around the league. For me, I have always said that I am committed to the company I was with, 100 percent. The situation changed. And that is the reality of life and this business. When the situation changed, realizing the landscape of the league, I had only one place. I am very excited to come here. I see what this team has done over the last three or four years and it’s getting better and I really feel like you want to get back to where you are. I’m really excited to be here.

What you know about Ryan Jonathan Taylor (courtesy of Pat McAfee):

“He is an animal, an absolute beast. We played Buffalo late last year so getting ready for it we saw them play a game where Indy played them. I was, ‘Man, they run the ball pretty well against a good defense.’ I said, ‘Let me pop on and see what they’re doing in crime.’ Because you’re rolling here in the middle of the season. I got a chance to peek at some of what she did last year and she’s special. I really think he’s special. He has great eyesight, great balance, good speed, good strength, catches the ball well outside the backfield, is willing to pass protection. I had lunch today with Quinton (Nelson) and Ryan Kelly and they told me how willing and smart he was in pass protection. I’ve been around for a long time and you don’t get the backs that often do all this and when they do they are game changers. So I was expelled for playing with him. I sent him that text message yesterday. I said, ‘I can’t wait to play with him.’
