After announcing trans athlete Leah Thomas as the first transgender athlete to win the NCAA Championship, Government Dissenters has issued an announcement in support of local Emma Wayant of Florida.

Governor Desantis rejected the claim of trans athlete Leah Thomas at the NCAA’s Division I 500-Yard Freestyle Championships, during which Thomas finished second full time over former Olympian Emma Wayant.

Thomas, who was born Will Thomas, came out to be a transgender to their family in 2018 and only began to transform in 2019, and swam for the University of Pennsylvania men’s team until the 2021-2022 season.

Highlighting Wayant’s impressive accomplishments as both a student and an athlete, Descentis reiterated Florida’s view that allowing individuals who are biologically male to compete with their women “perpetuates a deception against female athletes” and “destroys opportunities for women.”

By allowing men to compete in women’s sports, the NCAA is wasting opportunities for women, mocking its championships and perpetuating a fraud.

Wayant had previously qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the women’s 400-meter individual medley.

Without pulling a punch, Desantis straightened the record. “It is my firm resolve that men will not compete against women like Emma Wayant, and that women and girls will not be robbed of their achievements, prizes and scholarships,” she said.

The announcement ends with DeSantis indicating that he feels compelled to defend the fair playground of Florida-born Wayant, who is currently attending school in Virginia “since he is a native Floridian from Sarasota.”

“I, Florida Gov. Ron Descentis, hereby announce in Florida that Emma Wayant is the rightful winner of the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Women’s 500-Yards Freestyle, congratulating her on another significant achievement, and proud to be a Florida resident.”
