USNews.com reports:
Republican Sen. Patty Ann Lodge presided over the Senate State Affairs Committee where the bill was passed 37-33 after it was passed in the House.
Lodge said he received thousands of emails protesting the law, “especially with people with disabilities, the elderly and children who can’t wait in line.”
Lodge, who is retiring for 11 terms this year, specifically declined to say whether the bill would be heard, but said twice, “I think it’s clear what is going to happen with the bill,” when pressed for a definitive answer.
Proponents of the bill say drop boxes are susceptible to theft and arson. Opponents say the drop boxes are especially useful in rural areas, and that the system could remove the US post office as a place to drop ballots.
