Central Avenue. North will be closed on Monday for split construction – Indy News

(Indianapolis, In.) – Central Avenue will be closed under I-65 on Monday morning due to north split construction. The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Saturday that Central will be closed between 11th and 12th streets, so crews can safely dismantle overhead structures.

The closure is expected to last until April.

Alabama St. was expected to reopen this weekend after an extended closure for the same reason, and will be used as a detour to Central Avenue for closure.

Northbound traffic will be diverted to 10th Street before then to College Avenue. Southbound traffic will go west to 16th Street then to Alabama Street. Pedestrian traffic between 10th and 13th streets will be redirected to Alabama Street, according to a press release from INDOT.

Maintenance will be by entering the downtown Indianapolis:

I-70 Wastebound Collector / Distributor (C / D) Ramp to Michigan Street Ramp (13-ton vehicle weight limit declared)
Access to I-70 East Pine Street east of Michigan Street and New York Street
I-65 Northbound / I-70 Eastward exit ramp on Washington Street (13-ton vehicle weight limit announced)
I-65 to the north and to the south of Martin Luther King. Junior / West Street
I-65 southward on Meridian Street
I-65 on the northbound Meridian and Pennsylvania streets
All existing ramps of I-70 west of South Split
