California Governor Gavin Newsom Appoints First Eunuch Judge

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) appointed a publicly transgender judge to the bench on Friday.

“Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the appointment of eight judges, including Andy Mudrick – the first publicly transgender person on a California bench to serve as a judge on the Sacramento County Superior Court.” – The governor’s office announced Friday.

“I’m humble, respectful and I’m thrilled,” Printer told the Times. “I’m grateful to Government News for creating a vision for California for all.”

The AP reports:

A disability rights lawyer will become the second publicly transgender person to serve as a California judge after being appointed Friday by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Andi Mudryk, 58, chief deputy director of the Department of Rehabilitation, will serve on the Sacramento County Superior Court.

“Andi Mudryk will be a great recruiter and an excellent judge,” Kolakowski tweeted. “I’m glad to finally have a trans colleague on the California bench.”

Mudrick has the distinction of being the first transgender person to serve on a California bench.

Mudrik, who has brittle bone disease, previously worked as a chief consultant in the rehabilitation department and held various positions in various disability legal rights organizations.
