ST. LOUIS, MO – Two cousins were streaming live at a birthday party Friday night when one shot at the other before turning his shotgun on himself.
Cuarn Harvey, 14, and Paris Harvey, 12, were on Instagram live when the little boy shot and killed his teenage cousin, then shot himself.
Two children were shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
St. Louis police called it a homicide, however, the family insisted it was a bizarre accident.
“It simply came to our notice then. It was not a suicide, “said Shanis Harvey, 35, of Paris, according to the St. Louis Dispatch. “It was a strange accident. It happened.” He did not see the video himself, but family members who described it to him said. They were “trying to be very hip,” he said.
It is not clear where the gun came from.
St. Louis Dispatch reports:
A family party at a downtown apartment has turned tragic, and now family members are dealing with the deaths of two young cousins when police say one of them, a girl, 12, shot the other, a boy, 14, and then himself.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. Friday at the Couples Station Loft apartment on South 10th and Spruce Road. Family members rented a downtown apartment to celebrate March’s birthday.
Police have not yet announced the results of their investigation. Police initially listed the incident as murder-suicide.
Family members said Cuarn and Paris were alone in the bathroom in the apartment, making a video in the mirror.
After shooting Kuran, the video shows the girl carrying a gun, and it could have accidentally gone off again, they said. Family members said both children were shot in the head.
